Security (K-12)
Schools use a variety of security elements and procedures to help promote safety. Physical security measures such as layered entryways, surveillance systems, and the presence of school resource officers are an important aspect of school safety. According to the National Center for Educator Statistics, in 2021-2022, “the most commonly reported safety and security measures (reported by more than 90 percent of schools) were
- controlling access to school buildings during school hours (97 percent);
- requiring visitors to sign or check in and wear badges (97 percent); and
- using security cameras to monitor the school (93 percent).”
